“BONUS POINTS”

At the end of both the junior high and high school finals, per the rule book, each State is required to give out yearend bonus points. I did not make up this rule and not sure if I can explain why but please read the rule starting on page 34 and see if you can determine the reasoning.
REMEMBER, the bonus points DO NOT affect the individual event placing, the bonus points may ONLY affect determining the all around champions and the rookies of the year.

High School

We have a total of 17 rodeos (not including finals) with a potential of a contestant receiving a total of 170 points. Per the rule book, 10 points is added for a total of 180 points. So the formula looks like this:
180 total points
45 State Finals points is subtracted from the 180, leaving:

135 bonus points to be divide up to all contestants placing in 1st through 10th place in each event. (percentage)
1st to receive 135 points
2nd to receive 121.5 points
3rd to receive 108 points
4th to receive 94.5 points
5th to receive 81 points
6th to receive 67.5 points
7th to receive 54 points
8th to receive 40.5 points
9th to receive 27 points
10th to receive 13.5 points

As you can see, there is no way bonus points would affect the individual events standing since each contestant is receiving a percentage of the bonus points that would never allow one contestant to overtake another in the individual standings. It is mathematically impossible.

You can see how it could affect the all around points and the rookie points in that the more events a contestant competes in, and depending on the placement of the individual in each event, a contestant could obtain through bonus points, the ability to overtake a position in the all around and rookie point standings.
Remember to win the rookie of the year you must complete in at least two events.
Any questions please give Jack a call and I will TRY to explain it.
